The new gallery space on Sophienstraße in Berlin-Mitte opens with a solo exhibition of the young Canadian artist (*1979). Since his graduating in 2003 from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design he has exhibited in numerous shows in Canada, China, USA and Germany. His work could be characterized as psychedelic or surreal Minimalism. Generally, simple geometric forms and structures serve as the starting point, which in most cases grow into complex shapes full of vibrating energy sprawling |

to the edges of the picture. They are improvisations, pulsating in the rhythm of a pre-conscious ratio with a peculiar reference to folk or tribal art. Wadden's latest works are stronger ordered by a system, similar to the legendary "instructions" by Sol LeWitt (1928–2007) to his Wall Drawings – that restrains the freedom of the painting hand. In this sense his pyramidal stacks are made exclusively out of cubes continuously increasing one level at a time from top to bottom as a reeling tower. Wadden will paint one of these stacks directly on the wall at berlin art scouts. |
